/settings — Configure the bot
The /settings command configures how the bot behaves on your server. It currently governs release announcements: the messages the bot posts when a new version ships.
Settings are stored per server. Changing them on one server never affects another.
Parameters
showsubcommandDisplay the current configurationannouncement-channelsubcommandChoose where announcements are postedannouncementssubcommandTurn announcements on or offPermissions
/settings requires the Manage Server permission. Members without it do not see the command in the Discord interface at all. It is hidden rather than refused.
This differs from /add, /edit and /remove, which any member can use.
Subcommands
/settings show
Displays the current configuration:
**Announcement channel:** #bot-news
**Announcements:** enabled
**Mention `@everyone`:** disabled
When no channel has been chosen, the first line reads:
**Announcement channel:** not set, announcements fall back to the last channel the bot was used in
/settings announcement-channel
Chooses the channel where release announcements are posted.
| Parameter | Type | Required | Description |
|---|---|---|---|
channel | Channel | Yes | Text channel to post announcements in |
Only text channels appear in the picker. The bot verifies it can actually post there before saving:
Announcements will now be posted in #bot-news.
If it cannot, nothing is saved and the bot names the missing permission:
I cannot post in that channel: the **View Channel** permission is missing. Grant it there, then run the command again.
The same message appears with Send Messages when that is what is missing. Grant the permission on the channel, then run the command again.
/settings announcements
Turns announcements on or off, and controls the @everyone mention.
| Parameter | Type | Required | Description |
|---|---|---|---|
enabled | Boolean | No | Receive release announcements on this server |
mention-everyone | Boolean | No | Mention @everyone when an announcement is posted |
Both parameters are optional and independent, so supply just the one you want to change. The bot replies with the full configuration after applying it.
Running the subcommand with neither parameter displays the current configuration without changing anything, exactly like /settings show.
Defaults
| Setting | Default |
|---|---|
| Announcements | Enabled |
@everyone mention | Disabled |
| Announcement channel | Not set — falls back to the last channel the bot was used in |
Where announcements land
When no announcement channel is set, the bot falls back to the last channel a command was used in on your server. That message carries a notice explaining the fallback and pointing to /settings announcement-channel.
If the bot has never been used in any channel, it looks for a channel holding an objective that has not expired yet. If it finds neither, your server is skipped for that announcement: nothing is posted.
Setting a channel explicitly removes this guesswork, and the fallback notice disappears.
Behavior
Missing @everyone permission
If your server opted in to the @everyone mention but the bot lacks the Mention Everyone permission in the target channel, the announcement is still posted, just without the mention. Nothing is blocked.
Announcements already received
Each announcement is sent once per server. Re-running /settings never re-sends one that already arrived.
A server that installs the bot after a version was announced does not receive that announcement retroactively. It starts fresh from the next release.
Turning announcements off
With enabled set to false, your server is skipped entirely for future announcements. The setting persists until an admin turns it back on.
